These front-and-top NYT headlines caught my attention. First...
Democrats Raise Alarms Over Costs of Health BillsWhy didn't that matter before the vote? I'll tell you: that vote, the passage of HealthCare in the House, was pure, unadulterated showmanship. It wasn't meant for anything but posturing, a bit play for the lefties.
WASHINGTON — As health care legislation moves toward a crucial airing in the Senate, the White House is facing a growing revolt from some Democrats and analysts who say the bills Congress is considering do not fulfill President Obama’s promise to slow the runaway rise in health care spending.
I predicted it would die in the Senate, because, like an aborted fetus, it was never given a chance to live.
Oh, speaking of abortion...
The Ban on Abortion CoverageIf they use their own money? Really?
When the House narrowly passed the health care reform bill on Saturday night, it came with a steep price for women’s reproductive rights. Under pressure from anti-abortion Democrats and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, lawmakers added language that would prevent millions of Americans from buying insurance that covers abortions — even if they use their own money.
If they use their own money to buy insurance, why not buy insurance that will prevent the pregnancy in the first place? Condoms, spermicides, contraceptive shots, whatever. There's plenty of alternatives besides abortions.
Hell, no, we won't pay for other people's abortions. Fuck dat. Let 'em kill on their own dimes.
The restrictive language allows people to buy “riders” that would cover abortions. But nobody plans to have an unplanned pregnancy, so this concession is meaningless. It is not clear that insurers would even offer the riders since few people would buy them. But Democrats want to support abortions! Supporting abortions, the politics thereof, is a principle plank of the Left's Democrat policies.
From the LA Times...Liberals threaten to derail health bill over abortion curb
Reporting from Washington - Liberals furious over a last-minute deal that secured passage of healthcare legislation in the House by restricting abortion coverage threatened Monday to derail the massive overhaul bill.Bloody bastards, let 'em derail it. Or, better stated, abort it.
At least 40 House members pledged to reject the final bill if the abortion provision survives in the Senate and the conference that joins the Senate and House versions into a single piece of legislation.
