Washington sniper John Muhammad has been executed by lethal injection over a series of 2002 shootings that left 10 people dead, a prison spokesman said.

"I did not hear him utter a word," spokesman Larry Traylor told reporters after confirming that Muhammad was dead.

Muhammad's three-week reign of terror in 2002 left 10 people dead, paralysed the capital and triggered one of the largest manhunts in US history.

What would have been cool? A live video feed of his execution, fed into Nidal Hassan's hospital room.
