Jules Crittenden reminds us that today is the anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge...
It began at dawn on Dec. 16, 1944, 64 years ago today, with rapid assaults through the Ardennes forest, as the Germans blitzed one last time, hoping to split the Allied armies and take Antwerp. As Guderian reportedly liked to say, “Man schlägt jemanden mit der Faust und nicht mit gespreizten Fingern.” You punch with the fist and not with the fingers spread.General Guderian, eh? Immediately brings to mind this Al Stewart masterpiece "Roads to Moscow".
As you know, this song was written from the perspective of a Russian soldier who fought the Germans for 4 years, was captured, escaped, then marched by fellow Russians to gulag in Siberia.
A nice reward.
A fantastic video.
