Did Fred or Huckabee or Romney win the Iowa pre-caucaus debate? Sources vary; but Fred Thompson led the charge against the 'moderator'; sourpuss Des Moines Register Editor Carolyn Washburn...

From Dean Barnette, at The Weekly Standard...
"The problems went beyond Washburn's lack of mad moderating skillz. From the outset, Washburn announced that the candidates would not be discussing either Iraq or immigration. Swell! It's the biggest debate of the season, so let's take the two biggest issues off the table. For what it's worth, Washburn brought all the charm to her assignment of a latter-day Nurse Ratched."
Of course, I missed the mid-afternoon debate (Hopkinsville, KY was boring, too, as well as nassty with rain, but at least I was in good company) but I did hear Fred's clip on a radio spot. Fred definitely stood out from the crowd, and lead the rest of the candidates in defiance against the show of hands over Al Gore's global warming question.

Was it the worst debate ever? From Allahpundit...
"The incredible, unanswerable question of the hour: What kind of slackjawed moron would take the two most important issues of the election off the table at the start of the last pre-primary debate? If anything, she should have kept those two and jettisoned everything else.

After today’s withering reviews, the moderators are bound to be working out the kinks for tomorrow’s turn with the Democrats. Kucinich is disqualified so the field will be leaner and meaner than the GOP’s bloated Keyes-plus format. The candidates will probably be allowed to respond to each other more than they did today and Iraq may well be left on the table for discussion. Who knows? Maybe they’ll even replace Nurse Ratched with someone else.

And if they do, our howls of bias! shall be shrill indeed."
Well, of course the Democratic 'debate' will be biased! What else can we expect from the MSM? We know their positions: Retreat from Iraq; Socialized Health Care; Raise Taxes; try to keep John Edward's hair unmussed. All the same basic talking points.

Maybe Shrillary will taunt Obamba over their individual drug use. Both used drugs; as in the main Democratic talking points, it's just a matter of degree, and willingness to admit it.

Republicans fight over religion; Democrats fight over drugs. Amazing.

Which do you think our society needs right about now?
