Today's NCP features a pic of Nashville's lame-duck Mayor Bill Purcell, and famed Captain of the Ticket Writers, current Chief of Police (and hidden tax collector) Ronal Serpas (who has collected more ca$h for Nashville's coffers than any police chief in Nashville history.
Which is fine, I suppose, if the true meaning is to shut down traffic offenders. No one likes aggressive, inconsiderate, or drunk/stoned drivers. But there is a general feeling that the number of tickets are producing a Police State mentality, especially in the downtown area, say, Second Avenue on a Friday night, or during an 'event'. Sometimes, downtown Nashville looks like Berlin, East Germany, circa 1975...
The article (besides having that opportunistic photo) states that Serpas will be out of a job if candidate Bob Clement gets in office, as the new Mayor, at the behest of the Union Thug Teamsters who now represent the PD.
Not to jump into Nashville Politics, but this particular "Willie Horton" thrown out for already aggrieved Nashville voters to tear into, might just be enough to get Clement the job.
No one wants aggressive drivers, but what's worse is the specter of an out-of-control Police State...
