An off-duty police officer in an unmarked car, with no emergency lights, at 3:00 AM, follows a speeding, weaving vehicle for 10 miles, well outside his jurisdiction.
He pulls alongside the offending vehicle at a redlight and tells the motorist he's a cop, and shows his badge. The motorist drives off.
The cop then follows him further, stopping behind the motorist, who gets out of his car and walks back towards the cop, who shows his badge...and his gun. "“...that's a BB gun,” says the motorist, and walks back to his car again, and drives to his $1.3 million home on a cul-de-sac, where the cop again tries to make him believe he's a cop...by shooting twice in the bushes, twice in his vehicle, and finally three times in the motorist.
The motorist just happens to be San Diego Chargers Linebaker Steve Foley, a 9-year veteran, who just so happened to have had charges dropped the week prior by the San Diego DA's office...charges of beating up a cop.
Why does this mean anything to Nashville, to me? Well, Nashville is one of the 32 NFL cities; we have had an incident where a cop 'stalked' an NFL player and couldn't get a conviction after saying "I'm gonna get him" (McNair's DUI); and we have a turd or two on the team who may be in line for some special 'attention' from our cops...PacMan comes to mind...
Questions I have are, why didn't the cop call for backup, for a well-marked cruiser? Why didn't the cop, when tagging along after someone who obvioulsly didn't believe he was a cop, disengage from the situation and wait for help? He followed Foley 35 miles from Coronodo to Poway, and from some comments on a Chargers Forum, "I have heard the police in Coronado were Nazi's..." Like a Belle Meade cop folllowing a perp to Hendersonville without bringing in Micky Metro...
And why did he shoot into the bushes?? Heck, I've had the concealed carry training; and the first thing you hear is "don't pull it unless you intend to use it"...first rule. Shooting in the bushes was just stupid; hit a rock, richochet, bullet goes in a home and ...
Well, here's the story, and watch this one closely. It will prove to be interesting.
