The lead-up to this historic mistake came after Obama breaks out in a partisan fist fight and threatens a National Panic if he doesn't get his way; at least he learns that he can't sweet-talk most Republicans: John McCain, surprisingly, showed some sense and didn't kowtow to The Man from Unicorn.

Declan McCullagh: Democrats Rush Stimulus Plan Through Congress Much Like Republicans Did With Patriot Act
After eight years under President George W. Bush, six of them with Republicans in control of Congress, Democrats have pent-up demands for domestic spending that they believe the election validated. Republicans, for their part, interpreted their defeats as a sign that they were not conservative enough in opposing spending and pushing tax cuts....Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer throws some support to the bill, but warns..
So much for Baracky simulating a 'panic'."In my view, what we now have will be a fundamental economic reset," he said. "The economy is going to have to re-establish itself at a level of spending that reflects the real value of underlying assets before we can all start growing again at a healthy rate."
On the other hand, even after this week's unemployment reports, the U.S. unemployment rate remains at 7.6 percent, lower than where it was in 1975 and 1992, and far lower than 10.8 percent in 1982. Figures before 1940 involved more estimation, but Census Bureau data put the unemployment rate in 1938 at 19.1 percent.

There is no economic stimulation in this execrable plundering of the public weal. It is, actually, no more or less than what it appears to be: a gargantuan and shameless involuntary transfer of the private assets of John Q. Buttfucked to the sinister Machiavels who bestride the Rogue State, bit barely in its thrashing jaws. It is what the leftists have always dreamed of: the harmonic convergence of crisis, despair, and befuddlement that will allow the muscled arm of l'etat to exercise a great vast mugging of the American people. Control of both houses of Congress, a megalomaniacal president with delusions of grandeur, propped upon his throne like a bollixed Joseph II by a press simultaneously worshipful and perfidious. Abetted by a formerly loyal opposition brought low by their own avaricious weaknesses, and a cohort of instant gratification baby boomer financiers bereft of all decency, reason, and fiduciary constraint.Vman again hits nail on head; no more needs be said. As far as bloggers go, Georgia's Velociman is quickly becoming one of my favorite reads.
Who is this stranger? I fully expected to see John McCain leading the Republicans to suicide; agreeing with Obama and Democrats every chance he gets. But no: McCain leads the Republicans out of this debacle, and puts the seal of OWNERSHIP fully in the Democrat's corner. If only a handful (three RINOS make a handful?) of Republicans support the bill, is it truly bipartisan?
“You can call it an agreement, but you cannot call it a bipartisan agreement,” McCain said.
In other words: Own it, bitches~!
Stay tuned for the final Senate vote, then the House gets to have another look-see.
We needs call our local Senators and Reps. Tell 'em to cut the pork, cut the hidden agenda lefty treats, and apply our monies only where necessary. Not, for instance, for some $886K Frisbee park in San Antonio that'll only generate four jobs.
