I left this comment yesterday on a site that was filled with hateful atheists, with lots of bashing of religion in general and Christians and Christmas in particular. You know, the usual; religions breed hate;, religions have killed millions; religions are of no use or value anymore in a world where 'we know better than to believe in sky ghosts'.
The purpose of religion has never been to justify hate or death, but to celebrate and add meaning to our lives; and to help us seek the ultimate purpose of our lives. Because there is purpose to our lives; whether or not we want to explore that purpose with religion, or simply go along with the newest meme that we are just somewhat smarter animals what will be born, reproduce and die with no further meaning, is our own choice.
Well, my comment to those atheists..
Heh. Lots of peoples here, in America, are now bashing religions, bashing the poor Godbotherers. Problem is, bash-boys and grrls, you haven’t the faintest clue whether or not there is a Creator, or what shape or form said Creator would or did take, or, especially sad, what said Creator might well expect from the little balls of clay He shaped. So, whatever path you decide to take, keep in mind that you have some purpose. Check frequently to see if your life is purposeful. The question you should ask yourselves, do you really feel comfortable believing that this pitiable short life you’re ‘conducting’ right now is all you’re gonna get? Do you wonder if you have a soul, or any sort of connection to something, anything, greater than just the pointless interstitial chemical reactions that power your tiny, tiny brain? (well, sure, it’s the 2nd or 3rd largest brain on the planet, but compared to your possible Creator’s powers, yours is as noticeable as a flicked Bic from orbit. and it’s limited to a useful life of what, 70 years at best? so, nothing to really be proud of.)
So, soulless clay clods, you want to disparage those who have faith. Why is that? Because they have some inner peace and happiness, and you never will? Because their beliefs are heartfelt, and shared, and their works are well-received by others of faith? And they might just know something you don’t?
Best if you stop trashing other’s beliefs. Because there will come a time, maybe at the next intersection, when your time runs out. Then, your soul will be..shall we say…unsettled.
Good luck with that.
If you need a path, you know where to look.
