....but more 'Choice: an old Congresscritter or a new Progressive...watch my leg, please!')

From the NCP: Dean, Clement head to runoff

Sorry, Beverly Briley, somehow that 'Immigrant's Song and Dance' you played didn't work out for you...

Dean and Clement, Clement or Dean...what to do?

A 'razor-thin margin' between them, but both go in completely opposite directions, based on their ages (both are Democrats, so there is no real choice there.)

I've commented at NCP:
Nashville has two choices: a well-known long-time Family-Heritage-Named Democrat [Bob Clement], looking to step from a Congessional seat (as did two other former congresscritters, Richard Fulton and Bill Boner) to the easy job as Nashville Mayor (in Clement's case it'll be a 'retirement' home.)

And a young, vibrant, unfortunately self-described 'progressive' who's looking to move up to better things in the future (the 'stepping stone' scenario.)

With Clement coming out swinging, so soon, he is either overly confident or a nervous wreck...in any event, that was probably not the right thing to do.

I don't vote in Nashville, but Dean seems to be a better choice.

He has fewer cronies to worry about...
The 'acceptance' speeches speak for themselves...Dean's...
“We need to continue the 16 years we’ve had of progressive, pragmatic, ethical leadership in the mayor’s office,” he said. “We cannot go back. Our direction is forward.

“We need to make sure that Nashville has schools that exceed in quality the schools in the surrounding counties because we want families to live in Nashville. We don’t just want people to work in Nashville; we want their families to live in Nashville.

“All I can do is speak to what my intentions are,” Dean told reporters after the speech. “My intention is to do what we just did in the last campaign, and I think this last campaign is something that Nashville can be very proud of, that we can be an example to the rest of the country that you can have a serious discussion of public policy, a serious discussion of the future without being negative, and that’s what I want to do.”
{emboldenings mine}

Clement's:
“Karl Dean said it was against the law for the people of Nashville to vote to approve tax increases by referendum by vote of the people. Karl Dean, you’re out of step with the people of Nashville...”
Ready to throw some runoff in Dean's direction, no doubt.

Hmmmph. The image that comes to mind is Tommy Chong's 'runoff' on Sgt. Stadanko's (Stacy Keach's) leg in the movie 'Up in Smoke'. If I could just find that image....

;D
