After winning his 3rd-term election with over 60% of the poplar vote last December, Leftist Hugo Chávez has pressed ahead with his desire to socialize Venezuela...on the strength of that nation's Oil-Rich Orinco Belt, where there are 'proven' reserves of 80 Billion Barrels, and possibly more. All Chávez had to do was nationalize the oil reserves, and the refineries, throw out the private firms, and voila! the country is a Democrat's dreamland.

Today, two US firms rejected a 'deal' (actually a force play...Hugo's state-owned PDVSA oil firm won't take 'no' for an answer. Either sign the deal, or leave...without the oil) that would keep them in the oil bidness in Venezuela. So, today, we have...

Oil projects and companies in affected fields
1. Sincor (PDVSA*, Total, Statoil); Petrozuata (PDVSA, Conoco Phillips)
2. Ameriven (PDVSA, Conoco Phillips, Chevron Texaco)
3. Cerro Negro (PDVSA, Exxon Mobil, BP)
*PDVSA is Venezuela's state-owned oil company

"Sources at the state-owned oil firm, PDVSA, say they've been unable to agree with Conoco Phillips and Exxon Mobil about their future role.
...

"The six international firms working there have had little choice but there's been intense negotiation over compensation.

"It is reported that four of the six companies have come to an agreement and will stay.

"But with Tuesday's deadline to finalise arrangements approaching, the American firms Conoco Philips and Exxon Mobil have not yet struck a deal.

"This could lead to them leaving Venezuela altogether."
You know, this is the only way socialism can succeed...have abundant reserves of a commodity that the world has to have; nationalize that product, and reap the profits. Profits then subsidize massive social programs, the 'elected leader' becomes so popular that he is automatically re-upped without any opposition. Look east, and south, and other countries are lining up to support, and join, with you. To form the "Bank of the South", funded by Venezuelan oil, by which to control...all of South America? No, not big enough...

Chávez wants to be 'loud and proud' on the world's stage. He's befriended US enemies Ahmadman in Iran (Iran has built factories in Venezuala, and there's a direct flight between Teheran and Caracas), Kim Bong-hit-Il in North Korea (Chávez wants to buy Korean missles), and Bashar Al-Assad in Syria (just to have him on his 'badboy' list). He's slapped palms with Hamas, and he's bashed Israel. Chavez definitely has BDS; he bashed Bush last September in the UN General Assembly (and made American leftists swoon with delight...by plugging their hero Noam Chomsky's toilet-paper substitute novel, whatever it's called).

Is this one of the 'World Leaders' the American Left is wanting the US to cultivate? One who would court our demise, if he could. Well, maybe not the demise of the US citizens who buy his product, until he gets that pipeline built to the Pacific Coast so he can sell to China, but definitely the demise of the faction of the USA who would watch his every move very, very closely.

That's the Republican/Conservative faction.
