I posted earlier on Cho Seung-Hui's background (as we knew it, yesterday) and updated this morning on some new information, on what VT knew and when they knew it...that's damning. I want to explore what we know, now, on Cho Seung-Hui's ability to purchase a gun.



He bought a Glock 9mm from Roanoke Firearms, and a box of 'practice rounds', 36 days ago, for $571. Roanoke Firearms owner John Markell: "He was a nice, clean-cut college kid. We won't sell a gun if we have any idea at all that a purchase is suspicious...". Cho met the requirements for legal purchase...he had a Green Card, making him a 'permanent resident' of the USA (although not a Citizen); and, he had no felonies on his record. Roanoke Firearms completed the sale in accordance with the law, that is clear.



But, he did obtain a firearm while nuts. We're starting to see evidence this kid was deranged, and was even referred to Police and to a "Mental Health Facility"...

"The gunman involved in the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history had previously been accused of stalking two female students and had been taken to a mental health facility in 2005 after he parents worried he might be suicidal, police said Wednesday."

A woman was worried about his calls and email, and in 2005, Police were called in on her stalking report. The police couldn't do a thing because, as Police Chief Wendell Flinchum told the AP, the woman declined to press charges; and Cho was referred to the 'university disciplinary system'.



Again, in 2005, Cho was taken to a "mental health facility" when his parents became concerned he might be suicidal.



So, we have at least two 'run-in's' with the Authorities, and neither one was put on any public record, so as a gun shop could check them out. If only the Police could have flagged this guy as a possible stalker, and the 'Mental Health Facility' could have also flagged and tagged Cho's record, then the background check on Cho's weapons purchase would come back...sullied.



I don't believe in Complete Gun Control, as Liberals and Progressives want it, as anywhere near passing Constitutional muster, given the strongly-worded 2nd Amendment. But, we can't have these nut cases going off in public, either. So, Liberals, do you want to expand the 'Homeland Security Act' you love so much, with Rove watching your every 'joint puff' and recording your phone conversations, to cover mental health reports, and evaluations? Can we count on you to expand the survelliance of Americans at Home, in School, and as reported to Police, to prevent 'head cases' from buying firearms from dealers? Maybe a 'points' system...40 points for a stalking complaint, 50 points for a 'suicide' watch, and if one gets above, say, 60 points, then no buy gun. (Democrats get 30 points, automatically...slightly unhinged by Party Affiliation.)



And, no guns sold to 'Green Card' holders. Citizens only, please. Sorry, we have to take seriously our Citizens, not our guests. (And, why hadn't Cho become a citizen, since he's lived here since age 8?)
