Update 12/10/06

I've found this article on what's holding up the DVD release of Borat: the Frat punks' Lawsuit.

Two fraternity members filed a lawsuit Nov. 9, alleging they were tricked into making racist and sexist remarks in the spoof documentary "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan."
"The lawsuit claimed the film brought them "ridicule, humiliation, mental anguish and emotional and physical distress, loss of reputation, goodwill and standing in the community.""
No more so than can be overcome by filling their pocketses with money from this mega-hit movie. I say screw 'em; they had fun, and no one should not know, in this day and age, that anything they do, say, write, or think, can be discovered and made public...especially a couple of college kids from South Carolina.

My guess? They will get some cash, then STFU. Then we'll get the DVD.

In Romania, the villagers are probably going to sue, but their first instinct was to KILL!

'If I See Borat, I Will Kill Him With My Own Hands'

That says more about the village of Glod, Romania, than any of the skits Borat did...about Kazakhstan. Way to get your town in the world view, Glodsters...
Glod literally means mud, and that's only some of what its people would like to sling at Cohen and his production company.

About 85 miles from Romania's capital, Bucharest, Glod looks like something out of the Middle Ages.

About 1,400 people live in Glod, and, by Western standards, one could say they are dirt poor.
I'll do more updates as developments continue.

UPDATE 12/5/06 7:00 AM

An interesting article here today about a failed Borat 'plot' that never made the movie: Imperial County Jail in California didn't fall for the schtick, caught on to Borat's BS, and threw him and his crew out of Jail.

We also get some insight into the inner purposes of this film:
"I like-a this place," he tells the jailer. "Very nice. When you make all the mens do a pyramid, can I be on top?"
The comment, of course, was meant to play off the pictures from the Abu Ghraib prison scandal in Iraq.

Borat continues to be one of the most successful films of this year. And the bidding wars continue for his next film...but how on earth would he get away with the same stuff? Who in America would fall for it again? (Well, I'll bet there would be some idiot takers...

Speaking of Idiots: what about Pamela Anderson's divorce from Kid Rock? Did Borat cause this, or was it doomed from the start?

I posted somewhere at the time of their marriage that I had turned over an hour
glass to time this fiasco...
"Bob started screaming at Pam, saying she had humiliated herself and telling her, 'You're nothing but a whore! You're a slut! How could you do that movie?' - in front of everyone. It was very embarrassing."
Embarrassing?? Hadn't the Kid seen the video of Pam and that other moron she was married to? Gimme a break...

Hmph. Just an excuse for a breakup. Marriage is in enough trouble, without having idiots make a mockery of it!

Here's the first four minutes of the movie "Borat" (the original YouTube video I had was unceremoniously yanked by the Copyright Owner, 20th Century Boxheads...

Two shows on Saturday: Borat and AussieFloyd. Only I can meld this review on the same page!
___________________________________________________________________________

Pink Floyd's my favorite band of all time; I posted my thoughts on the death of Syd Barrett this summer. The Floyd stopped touring this year. Although Roger Water is touring, I can't stand his politics (just STFU and sing, or risk that pink pig having less $Money!)

But not to fear; Aussie Floyd does, in some ways, as good or a better (now that the Floyd is retired, the best) show than the Floyd: a smaller, appreciative audience (in Nashville, at TPAC's Polk theater). Every song covered was nailed almost perfectly by this band. Plenty of visuals: lasers, props, everything as it should be. I was just blown away by this show. "Do you think you could tell...heaven from hell?" Or the original from this?

On Borat: the Kazakhstanian Komedy that pierces bigot's hearts and makes cultural bags of waste out of some peoples's prejudices! I laughed my ass off! A couple of the scenes were nassty (the wrestling scene that was meant to...hmmph, I don't know what message Borat and Azamat were feeding us there, but to me homosexuality is and always will be a disgusting thing; call me a hater and I will reply I don't hate, but just have a genetically-inspired natural disgust. And I don't want to be around it...(homosexuality, that is) but in spite of that, it's a worthwhile movie. Just look at the lawsuits that are popping up around the world as a result of this flick...people's oxen were gored, and they don't like to be exposed for what they are.

The Best (could be) Line from this film: Get a Sack! This would be used if one were confronted by a beautiful babe (in Borat's case, Pamela Anderson). In Borat's Kountry the accepted method of marriage is to use a specially-prepared 'sack' to bag the bride! If you can imagine Pamela Anderson in a sack (no, wait, that video is already out there) you have an idea of the possible usage of the phrase "Get my Sack!" amongst the frat boy crowd...at least, the ones not suing...

Not in the Movie, but a Video from 2003: "Throw the Jew Down the Well". Most infamous...

So, go see these two shows. Although I'll bet Borat will be seen a lot more than Aussie Floyd...
